Forest of Light & Other Subliminal Messages
Pictured here: Artist Jesse Van Horne (Van Hoorn), during a live mural painting in the Santa Fe Art District in Denver, CO for First Friday's Art Walk & Festival on June 3rd, 2016.
I loved painting last night in the Santa Fe Art District for the First Friday Art Walk. It was the first night that has felt like summer for us here in Denver, after a fairly cool/cloudy/rainy spring. As always, it was a somehow harmoniously synched collision of sounds, sights, smells, tastes...the constant hum of traffic whizzing by drowned out by the wailing band (who were actually pretty good), the smell of wood fire and smoke, aerosol cans dripping vibrant hues, that bright cut of sun just before it sinks into wild peaks, this city is growing, though maybe still hasn't worn its shadows long enough to quiet prairie bees... (there's a tribute in there to Denver's poet for the literary among you).
The piece shown above is about 1/3 complete and measures 15'x8'. It's gonna take another week or two to complete, stay tuned! It's the largest of the Forest of Light series to date and will be installed for 3 months along 8th ave. at roughly Gallapago St. Look for it soon!
