Fractured Flight #6

July 9, 2015

Title: Fractured Flight #6 Artist: Jesse Van Horne Year: 2015 Media: Ink & Colored Pencil on Vellum 11"x17"

Here's the next specimen in my Fractured Flight series. It's a close up of the under belly of a B-29 Superfortress.

I am not a fan of what these aircraft were used to do, but I am a big fan of their design, materiality, and pure aesthetic. One of the most beautiful things mankind has ever built. And it's fitting that then we, in our egoic, unenlightened state, used this creation to committ mass atrocity.

My Fractured Flight series depicts these beautiful aircraft in wild, circus-like color schemes to allude to the insanity and ludicrous nature of war making in general.

When will it end?
