You Gotta Know When to Hold 'Em...

We've all heard the cliche, "You gotta know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em." Well I'm here to say never fold 'em. Always hold 'em. When it comes to your life and all its possibilities, never fold based on your perception of what is happening now (which is all you can really ever see).

To "fold 'em" or perceive something as a failure based on your present understanding is wasted energy. As far as I'm concerned, there is no failure. We all make choices in our lives that take us from one milestone to the next, and all to often we "fold" when we feel like something hasn't worked out the way we envisioned. The truth is that our lives will seldom (if ever) unfold exactly how we want them to, even if we plan extensively and take every precaution and study every possible turn.

What I am getting at here is this...see yourself as an adventurer on a journey rather than a victim who has had a series of things "happen" to them. See yourself as in control of your journey and as the Captain of your vessel, but also recognize that sometimes, when in the middle of a raging sea, all you can do is hold on and wait out the storm.

So I'd like to change the cliche a bit, because life, unlike a card game has infinite possible outcomes. I'd like to change the cliche to something that applies more to this human experience and less to a game of cards. When it comes to your life and living out your dreams and your vision...Always hold, never fold my good people!
